Proposed Plan

iConnect Community is a new complete community plan for the westerly portions of the existing power centre at Clappison’s Corners in Waterdown, Ontario.

This area is bounded by the Niagara Escarpment, Highway 6, Parkside Drive, and the existing residential neighbourhood to the east, and consists predominantly of big-box stores, shopping plazas, business parks, and vacant lands.

The proposed plan introduces a new “complete community” where people can ‘live, work, shop, play’.

iConnect Community will include new homes in the form of townhouses as well as apartment and condominium units. The new community will also include several hectares of parks, trail connections, and green space, a long-term nursing and retirement care building, and some smaller-scale commercial uses.

The City of Hamilton’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law currently designate these lands for more retail development. Applications have been submitted to the City of Hamilton requesting an amendment to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to permit a broader range of uses, including stand-alone residential uses that would allow the area to form into a complete community. A Draft Plan of Subdivision application has also been submitted which divides the lands into development blocks, parkland blocks, and municipal roadblocks.

Over the course of 2019 and 2020, the project team will be engaging with the community and working with the City of Hamilton to address technical matters related to the proposed redevelopment concept. In addition to early community consultation, a formal public meeting will be held at City Hall and Council will make a decision with respect to the applications.

Please contact Michael Davis, Senior Planner at the City of Hamilton at Michael.Davis@hamilton.ca to provide any written comments about the redevelopment proposal and to ensure that you are on the public notification list for this project if you wish to participate at any future public meetings.
